Physiotherapists
Tom Maher
Tom Maher graduated from the University of QLD Bachelor of Physiotherapy program in 2000. Tom has worked in both the public and private health sector.
Tom is a well respected and known local sporting personality. Tom has worked extensively with junior, senior and elite sporting teams in a wide variety of sports. He utilises all types of musculoskeletal treatment techniques for all types of conditions and has a particular interest in shoulder and knee rehabilitation.
Angela Hewitt
Angela studied a double degree in Physiotherapy and Exercise Science at Griffith University and graduated in 2005. Her recent graduation means that her expertise and knowledge is the most current and evidence based practice in Physiotherapy.
Angela is a Cairns local, who moved home in 2007 following an initial period of employment in a leading Townsville sports clinic for 2 years. Growing up in Cairns she was heavily involved in the dancing community and went on to study Dance full time at the Brisbane Dance Centre.
Angela has additional qualifications in Clinical Pilates, Sports Physiotherapy and Dance Physiotherapy. She is also a certified group exercise instructor. Angela’s main areas of interest are sporting and dance injuries, exercises rehabilitation, Pilates and all aspects of health and fitness.
Victoria Moss (Physiotherapist)
Victoria graduated with a BSC. Hons. degree in Physiotherapy from University of Manchester, UK in 2002. Victoria completed 3 years of rotations in a hospital just outside Manchester, where she became experienced in musculoskeletal inpatients and outpatients, cardiac rehabilitation, elderly rehabilitation and respiratory care for medical and surgical patients (including critical care).
Victoria has completed a course in acupuncture and is a current member of the Acupuncture Association for Chartered Physiotherapists. She has also completed real-time diagnostic ultrasound biofeedback training to help provide patients with essential feedback on muscle activity to aid in the rehabilitation of patients with back pain and incontinence problems. Victoria moved to Cairns from the UK in February 2006 and started working at Cairns Total Physiotheraphy in February 2007.
Sarah Thorne
Sarah completed a double degree in Physiotherapy and Health Science at Griffith University, graduating in 2005. Since this time she has completed further studies specializing in Sports Physiotherapy, Dance Physiotherapy, Bounce Back Spinal Rehabilitation and Clinical Pilates.
A Cairns local, Sarah also teaches dancing and hence has a special interest in the treatment and management of dancers and young gymnasts. She particularly enjoys the challenge of treating the adolescent population from a wide variety of sports/backgrounds and the special types of injuries that can present with this age group.
Sarah is a firm believer in prevention as well as management, and enjoys helping the active population to retain this way at any stage of life!
Timothy Lowcock
Tim joined the Cairns Total Physiotherapy team in 2011, upon completion of his degree at James Cook University, Townsville, in 2010. Tim has a general interest in lower limb conditions, particularly involving knees and ankles, and he enjoys working with athletes from all types of sporting backgrounds, especially endurance athletes. Tim has relished the chance to work closely with the Northern Pride Rugby League team this season, and hopes to do undertake further studies in Sports Physiotherapy to build on his knowledge base. He has also completed training in Dry Needling.
Tim is Bowen born and bred, and as such has had little trouble adapting to the Cairns lifestyle. Tim tried his hand at almost every sport growing up, and at present has been doing cycling and running training with the hope of completing a few Triathlons. He also hopes to travel to Europe at some time in the near future.
Bianca Quagliata
Bianca joined Cairns Total Physiotherapy in 2011, having trained at James Cook University, Townsville. A Cairns girl through and through, Bianca always knew she would return home upon completion of her studies in order to give back to the community in which she was raised.
Bianca has a strong sporting background; she plays soccer and touch football, and in 2011 travelled away as the physiotherapist for the Queensland U14 girls' soccer team. She has also worked with the Northern Pride and Skytrans Cairns Taipans teams.
Bianca has a special interest in Clinical Pilates. She has completed training with the Pilates Institute of Queensland, and runs group matwork classes at both our Edmonton and Westcourt clinics. Bianca is enjoying helping fellow locals get back on their feet, enabling them to overcome injury and return to their normal lifestyles.
Mitchell Seri
Mitchell graduated from JCU in 2008 with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy degree, and joined the team at Cairns Total Physiotherapy in December 2011. He enjoys all aspects of general musculoskeletal physiotherapy, and has a particular interest in sports injury rehabilitation.
Before moving to Cairns, Mitchell worked at a leading sports injury practice in Townsville. His main sport of interest is Rugby League- both as a treating physiotherapist, and a participant! Mitchell will be joining our very own Skill360 Northern Pride Rugby League team in 2012, where he plays in the backline as halfback or five-eighth.
Massage Therapists
Renea Moon
Renea is a Remedial Massage therapist who graduated from the Australian Institute of Applied Sciences. During the course of her studies, Renea has developed many varied techniques, enabling her to treat clients with differing ages, builds, injuries and medical conditions. Renea's work has a strong emphasis on trigger pointing, and deep tissue myofacial release techniques, incorporating dry needling. Renea is also proficient in Infant and pregnancy massage.
As a mother of three, Renea understands the benefits of massage throughout all stages of our lives. She has completed several Postgraduate qualifications to refresh her knowledge and update her skill levels.
Carly Fury
Carly graduated with a Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree in Sports Therapy from Teesside University in the UK in 2010, and has been working as a massage therapist at Cairns Total Physiotherapy since May 2011. Her areas of expertise lie in treating musculoskeletal injuries, and rehabilitating patients' sporting injuries; specifically, by using deep tissue and sports massage techniques to reduce tension and alleviate pain that occurs due to injury.
Carly has plenty of experience to back up her impressive qualifications. She has worked at several major sporting events, including the inaugural 2011 Challenge Cairns Triathlon Event, as well as the famous Great Northern Bike Ride in the UK. Carly has also worked with the Guisbrough rugby team (UK), and used a range of sports therapy treatments to support the team while studying for her degree. Carly also has qualifications in sports development, allowing her to provide sporting opportunities in underfunded areas of the UK.
