PHYSIOTHERAPY
At Cairns Total Physio we are continually expanding our services to offer you the latest evidence-based treatment and advice. Outlined below are our current services. Further information can be provided by one of our helpful team members.
ONE-ON-ONE THERAPY
Our highly-trained physiotherapists take a detailed history of your condition, perform a thorough assessment and provide an accurate diagnosis. A treatment plan is formed in conjunction with your goals to fix the cause of your problem, not just treat the symptoms.
NDIS PARTICIPANTS
Our Physiotherapists are NDIS Registered Providers. We come to you with the aim of helping you achieve your goals and live your best life. Our Physiotherapists can assist with managing and reducing chronic pain, strength and rehabilitation and improve quality of life and overall health and wellbeing.
ALTERG ANTI GRAVITY TREADMILL
The Alter-G Anti-Gravity Treadmill is an innovative rehabilitation and training treadmill that was developed by NASA and allows users to walk or run at a designated percentage of bodyweight. By using air pressure, the treadmill reduces body weight anywhere down to 20% whilst still allowing you to walk or run with reduced stress on your lower body. It is safe, comfortable and still promotes normal running or walking patterns.
STRAPPING SERVICES
We offer strapping services on an as-needed basis for clients requiring specific taping for sporting events or to help promote their continued recovery from injury. We can also offer basic strapping and educational courses to sporting clubs.
DRY NEEDLING/ ACUPUNCTURE
Dry Needling involves the insertion of fine filament needle into sensitive points in muscles. The aim of Dry Needling is to achieve a local twitch response to release muscle tension and pain. Dry needling is an effective treatment to temporarily reduce pain and tension in sensitised muscles.
GYM PROGRAMS
Individualised programs can be developed for clients looking at starting a gym program or those recovering from injury or surgery and returning to activity/sport. Emphasis is placed on the correct balance between strength, stability and flexibility exercises to reduce the risk of injury and maximize results.
MUSCULO-SKELETAL ASSESSMENTS
During this in depth assessment, we measure joint range of motion, flexibility, strength and motor control. These assessments are particularly useful for screening individuals commencing a new gym or exercise regime. They can help identify at-risk areas of the body and allow preventative measures to be put in place. Particularly useful for employers as a way of screening potential employees to reduce the risk of work injuries.
WORK PLACE SERVICES
We deliver onsite manual handling training, work station assessments, onsite educational sessions on topics including back care, posture, stretching, rehabilitation and return to work, exercise for injury prevention for a range of industries.

Massage Therapy
MASSAGE THERAPY
Our experienced Remedial Massage Therapists target
those sore and tight muscles to get you feeling looser,
more relaxed and free to get back to doing what you love.
REMEDIAL MASSAGE
Remedial massage is used to temporarily reduce pain and muscle tension to allow increased movement and aid recovery. The pressure applied in this treatment can either be strong and deep or gentle and shallow, depending on the problem. Sensitivity with the muscles can radiate pain to other parts of the body.
DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE
Deep tissue massage is effective for treating tension caused by day to day activities of life including work and exercise. It is particularly effective when muscles are located quite ‘deep’ compared to some of the more superficial muscles of the body. The technique incorporates long, slow, firm strokes following the direction of the muscle fibres. Your remedial massage therapist will often use their elbows, thumbs and knuckles to increase the pressure they can apply.
SPORTS MASSAGE
Sports massage is specifically tailored to different sports and sporting injuries. It is not a relaxing form of massage and can often be quite strenuous. It works by stretching tight muscles, stimulating inactive muscles and improving the condition of the soft tissue. The aim of sports massage is to reduce the stress and tension that can build up in the soft tissues of the body during exercise.
ONCOLOGY MASSAGE
Oncology massage is the modification of existing massage therapy techniques in order to safely work with complications of cancer and cancer treatment. Anyone who has ever received cancer treatment, from those in active treatment to those in recovery or survivorship, as well as those at the end of life, are best served by a massage therapist who has received training in oncology massage.
PREGNANCY MASSAGE
This is used to reduce stress, swelling, muscle and joint pain that may sometimes appear during pregnancy. Pregnancy massage can also be used as a form of relaxation during stressful times.
Exercise Physiology

Exercise Physiologists are university trained Allied Health Professionals who use a holistic, research-based approach towards improving the health of those with chronic conditions. Exercises are developed and progressed to suit the needs of the client to achieve their goals and can be matched to any fitness levels.

Exercise Physiologists don’t only help with people who have injuries or health conditions, they are experts in increasing athletic performance. Our team will assess deficits in athletic performance and tailor an exericse program to improve the weakness of any athlete, no matter their chosen sport.
hydrotherapy
Rehabilitation exercises are performed in a pool where there is less weight bearing on the joints of the body. Hydrotherapy is particularly useful for post-operative rehab, after periods of immobility or for arthritic type conditions.
