Strapping Services
Strapping services at Cairns Total Physio provide quick, practical support for joints and soft tissue structures, helping you stay active and manage symptoms during sport, training or daily activities.
We offer short, standalone strapping appointments, typically lasting 5–10 minutes, designed for patients who have already been assessed by a physiotherapist and would benefit from ongoing support.
These appointments are focused on strapping only, and do not include assessment or treatment.
What to expect from a strapping appointment
Strapping appointments are designed to be simple and efficient.
During your session:
- Your clinician will apply strapping to the required area
- This is usually one joint, or in some cases both ankles or both knees if appropriate
- The appointment is brief and focused purely on application
There is no assessment, diagnosis or treatment included in these sessions.
Strapping is most effective when it has already been discussed and trialled as part of your physiotherapy care.
When strapping can be helpful
Strapping may be used to:
- Provide additional support to a joint during activity
- Help manage symptoms during sport or exercise
- Assist with short-term confidence when returning to activity
It is commonly used for areas such as:
- Ankles (e.g. [ankle sprain])
- Knees (e.g. [PATELLOFEMORAL knee pain])
- Shoulders
- Other joints depending on individual needs
Strapping is often used alongside sports injury treatment and rehabilitation plans to support activity between sessions.
How strapping fits into your treatment plan
Strapping is considered a supportive tool, rather than a standalone treatment.
Your physiotherapist will:
- Assess whether strapping is appropriate
- Discuss when and how often it may be helpful
- Guide you on how it fits into your overall rehabilitation plan
In many cases, strapping appointments are booked:
- Between physiotherapy sessions
- Around training or game days
- When additional joint support is needed short-term
A clear and practical service
Our strapping service is designed to be:
- Quick and accessible
- Easy to schedule around training or sport
- Clearly guided by your clinician
This helps ensure you are using strapping at the right time, for the right reason, as part of your overall recovery or performance plan.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a strapping appointment the same as a physio session?
No. Strapping appointments are short and focused only on applying strapping. They do not include assessment, treatment or a full consultation.
Do I need to be an existing patient?
In most cases, strapping is recommended after a physiotherapy assessment. This ensures it is appropriate and used effectively.
How long does a strapping appointment take?
Appointments are usually 5–10 minutes, making them easy to fit in before training, games or during the day.
What areas can be strapped?
Common areas include ankles, knees and shoulders, depending on your needs and your clinician’s recommendation.
How often should I get strapping done?
This varies depending on your activity and condition. Your physiotherapist will guide you on frequency as part of your overall plan.
