Home Visits
Home visits at Cairns Total Physio provide access to physiotherapy and exercise physiology services in the comfort of your own home, when attending the clinic is not practical or appropriate.
Our home visit service is designed to ensure continuity of care, helping you receive high-quality treatment and rehabilitation while supporting your safety, independence and recovery in a familiar environment.
Who home visits are for
Home visits may be suitable for:
- NDIS participants requiring in-home support
- Patients recovering after surgery (e.g. [post‑operative physiotherapy])
- Individuals with reduced mobility or difficulty travelling
- People needing short-term support before returning to the clinic
- Those who prefer treatment in a home environment
We aim to support a smooth transition from home-based care to in-clinic rehabilitation where appropriate.
What to expect from your appointment
All home visits are delivered as one-on-one sessions with your physiotherapist or exercise physiologist.
Your appointment will begin with:
- A discussion of your current condition and goals
- Review of your home environment and movement challenges
- A targeted assessment appropriate to your setting
From here, your clinician will provide a structured and individualised plan, which may include:
- Hands-on physiotherapy (where appropriate)
- Guided exercise and rehabilitation
- Functional movement training within your home environment
- Education to support recovery and independence
Most home visit appointments are scheduled for 60 minutes, which includes travel time to and from your location.
The face-to-face treatment component is typically 30 minutes, with approximately 15 minutes allocated on either side for clinician travel.
If a longer appointment is required based on your needs, this can be arranged — please let our reception team know at the time of booking so we can allocate the appropriate time.
Bringing rehabilitation into your environment
One of the key advantages of home visits is the ability to apply rehabilitation directly to your everyday environment.
This may include:
- Practising safe movement around your home
- Improving mobility and confidence with daily tasks
- Identifying and modifying factors that may contribute to discomfort or injury
- Supporting return to independence after illness or surgery
This approach allows treatment to be practical, relevant and immediately applicable.
Supporting rehabilitation beyond the session
To support your progress between visits, we provide structured home programs using Move Health, our exercise app.
This includes:
- Personalised exercise programs
- Video demonstrations and instructions
- Prescribed sets and repetitions
- Reminders to help maintain consistency
- Ability to track progress and share updates with your clinician
This ensures your rehabilitation continues beyond the session, supporting better long-term outcomes.
Integrated care with your broader plan
Home visits are often used as part of a broader care pathway and may link into:
- [NDIS services]
- [gym programs]
- Ongoing physiotherapy or exercise physiology in the clinic
Where appropriate, we also communicate with:
- Support coordinators
- Family members and carers
- Other healthcare providers
This helps ensure your care is coordinated, consistent and aligned with your goals.
Availability and booking
Home visits are available where appropriate and may depend on:
- Your location
- Clinician availability
- Your individual needs and suitability
Home visits cannot be booked online and must be arranged via telephone through our reception team. This ensures we can confirm suitability, location and scheduling before your appointment.
Our team will work with you to determine whether a home visit is the most appropriate option for your situation and help coordinate the booking process.
