Gym Programs
Gym programs at Cairns Total Physio are designed to support both rehabilitation and performance, combining Physiotherapy and Exercise Physiology to help you build strength, improve movement, and stay active with confidence.
Whether you’re recovering from injury, returning to the gym, or looking to improve your physical capacity, our programs provide structured, individualised care guided by qualified clinicians.
All of our clinic locations are equipped with state‑of‑the‑art rehabilitation gyms, allowing us to integrate hands‑on treatment with exercise-based rehabilitation and provide a seamless transition from treatment to ongoing training.
What to expect from your appointment
Gym programs are delivered as 30‑minute, one‑on‑one supervised sessions with either a Physiotherapist or Exercise Physiologist, depending on your needs.
We begin with a clear understanding of:
- Your injury, condition or current concerns
- Your training and activity history
- Your goals (rehabilitation, strength, return to activity or performance)
This is supported by a thorough assessment, which may include:
- Movement and technique analysis
- Strength and control testing
- Functional capacity assessment
From here, we guide you through a structured program tailored to your stage of recovery and goals.
A bridge between rehabilitation and performance
Our gym programs are designed to support you at all stages:
- Early‑stage rehabilitation following injury or surgery
- Progression from physiotherapy into more active training
- Long‑term strength and conditioning
- Performance and injury prevention for active individuals
Physiotherapists and Exercise Physiologists often work collaboratively, ensuring your program evolves as your capacity improves.
This approach helps ensure you are not only recovering from injury, but also building the strength and resilience to stay active long term.
Individualised, supervised exercise programs
Every program is tailored to the individual and may include:
- Strength and resistance training
- Movement control and stability work
- Balance and coordination exercises
- Functional and sport-specific training
Because sessions are supervised, your clinician can:
- Adjust technique and loading in real time
- Progress exercises safely
- Modify your program based on how you respond
This helps reduce the risk of aggravation and build confidence with movement.
Supporting your program with Move Health
To complement in-clinic sessions, we provide access to Move Health, our online exercise app.
Through Move Health, you’ll receive:
- A personalised exercise program tailored to your goals
- Clear video demonstrations and exercise descriptions
- Prescribed sets, repetitions and frequency
- Reminders to keep you on track between sessions
You can also track your progress and share updates directly with your clinician, allowing us to monitor how you’re going and adjust your program as needed.
This helps ensure your rehabilitation continues beyond the clinic, supporting consistency, accountability and better long-term outcomes.
Conditions commonly supported
Gym-based rehabilitation is commonly used to help manage:
- [low back pain]
- [shoulder pain]
- [knee pain]
- [hip pain]
- [post‑operative rehabilitation]
- Persistent pain and deconditioning
It is also ideal for people transitioning from rehab to independent exercise or sport participation.
Using objective measures to guide progress
Where appropriate, we incorporate tools such as:
- VALD strength testing to assess capacity and track progress
- Functional performance measures
- Structured progression within the rehab gym environment
These tools support clinical decision-making and provide a clearer picture of your progress over time.
A supportive and practical approach
At Cairns Total Physio, gym programs are designed to be:
- Simple and easy to follow
- Aligned with your goals
- Realistic within your lifestyle
Our focus is on helping you build strength, improve movement, and feel confident continuing your progress both inside and outside the clinic.
