Accredited Exercise Physiologist, Joanne Jacobs, holds a Bachelor of Clinical Exercise Physiology from the University of New England (graduated 2021) and is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP). She is also an Accredited Exercise Scientist (AES) and a qualified Mental Health First Aider. Jo has been a valued member of the Cairns Total Physio team in Mareeba since 2022.
Clinically, Jo commonly supports people with:
- Menopause care, including peri- and post-menopause
- Neurological conditions such as Parkinsonโs disease and multiple sclerosis
- Osteoporosis and sarcopenia (age-related muscle loss)
- Metabolic conditions including heart disease, diabetes, stroke and kidney disease
- Joint pain, injury rehabilitation and long-term condition management
- Neurodivergent populations, including Down syndrome and autism spectrum disorder
Jo provides client-centred exercise physiology care grounded in collaboration. She works closely with each individual to design exercise programs that reflect their goals, lifestyle and long-term wellbeing, with a strong focus on building confidence, independence and quality of life.
Her exercise programs are highly individualised and often incorporate creative, real-world movements that are meaningful to each person, helping to ensure exercise feels purposeful, engaging and relevant to everyday life.
Jo regularly uses tools such as VALD dynamometry, Blazepods and the clinic rehab gym to guide program design and objectively track progress over time.
Outside of the clinic, Jo lives in Mareeba with her family and enjoys teaching dance in Cairns. She has a strong interest in womenโs health, midlife wellbeing and menopause education and values staying active to support her own physical and mental health.
