Myth #2 โ Physios just give you a bunch of exercises.
Although we do provide most patients with several exercises to do at home, these exercises are specifically chosen to help relieve your pain and get you back moving normally. However, prescribing exercises isn’t all we do. A major focus of our sessions is providing education to you about your specific injury, including the cause, the solution and the prognosis to help relieve any anxiety youโre experiencing. Throughout your treatment, we also use other treatments such as joint mobilisations, trigger point release, deep tissue massage, dry needling and taping for example.
Myth #3 โ I need an ultrasound, x-ray or MRI before I see a physiotherapist.
Although scans can be of value to help diagnose and direct our treatment, we are able to perform comprehensive assessments to accurately determine what is causing your pain. During your first appointment, we will detail your medical history, talk to you about your current lifestyle, perform specific assessments based on your symptoms and provide hands-on treatment to help alleviate any immediate pain that youโre in and develop an individualised rehab program. On occasion we will advise patients to go and get scans to rule out any nasty conditions. However, more often than not, this is not the case.
Myth #4 โ I should only see a physiotherapist if I’m in pain.
Pain is only one small aspect of your rehabilitation. Your injury could be caused by reduced range of movement, balance deficits, biomechanical issues, or strength for example. Our aim is to then help improve and fix these problems to prevent re-injury and allow you to live a freer and more enjoyable life.
Myth #5 โ I need a doctor’s referral to see a physiotherapist.
This is certainly not the case! Our physiotherapists are more than trained to assess, diagnose, and treat a wide range of conditions. The earlier you come in and see us, the quicker we can get you on the road to recovery. To book in, please call 4051 3252 or BOOK ONLINE HERE.
