Senior Physiotherapist

APA Titled Sports and Exercise Physiotherapist, Julie Hamlyn brings over 30 years of clinical experience to Cairns Total Physio. Julie holds a Bachelor of Physiotherapy and a Master of Sports Physiotherapy and is a member of the Australian Physiotherapy Association and Sports Medicine Australia. Julie holds a wealth of knowledge across sports, musculoskeletal and exercise-based rehabilitation.

Clinically, Julie commonly works with people requiring support for:

  • Acute and overuse sports injuries
  • Adolescent injuries, including growth- and load-related conditions
  • Post-operative rehabilitation of upper and lower limb injuries
  • Spinal pain, including neck and back pain
  • Adolescent scoliosis management
  • Womenโ€™s health through perimenopause and beyond

Julie takes a personalised and holistic approach to physiotherapy, beginning with a detailed assessment to identify the underlying contributors to pain and movement difficulties. Her treatment approach combines education, movement retraining, exercise-based rehabilitation and hands-on therapy where appropriate.

With postgraduate training in sports physiotherapy and formal qualifications in yoga teaching, Julie integrates movement awareness and confidence-building strategies into rehabilitation. She is currently undertaking further training in adolescent scoliosis and peri- and menopause care, supporting people through different stages of life.

Julie regularly utilises technology such as VALD systems to guide assessment and rehabilitation and the AlterG treadmill at our Westcourt clinic to support graded return to movement and loading.

Outside of the clinic, Julie enjoys staying active and spending time outdoors with her German Shepherd, Ruby, often paddleboarding together. She values balance in lifestyle and brings this perspective into her approach to health and wellbeing.
